Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

If your Rotobrush air duct cleaning system is leaving coils clogged with lint, dust, and pet hair after every job, you’re dealing with a coil cleaning failure that drags down suction and makes every cleaning take twice as long. We stock Rotobrush-compatible coil cleaning kits and replacement brushes at Mortons Air Duct San Antonio, with most installed jobs running between $185 and $420 depending on your specific Rotobrush model and how much of the coil assembly needs replacing. Call us at (903) 354-8393 and we’ll match the right coil cleaning kit to your exact machine, give you a written price, and get you back on schedule.

Call (903) 354-8393

Most owners notice the problem mid-job: the vacuum sounds weaker, the brush head stalls against buildup that used to clear in one pass, and the collection bag fills slower than it should. You might also see dark streaks on the coil housing or smell that hot-dust odor that means the coil is overheating from poor airflow. These are the same symptoms we see on our own Rotobrush equipment when it’s been run hard through San Antonio homes with heavy carpet, shedding dogs, and months-old dust in the return vents. The coil is the workhorse of the entire system, and when it’s fighting you, every job suffers.

Paul Adeyemi, our owner, has spent enough afternoons pulling apart Rotobrush coil assemblies in the Texas heat to know exactly which kits fit which machines. He’d rather spend ten minutes on the phone matching your coil model than have you buy something that doesn’t seat right and burns out in a month. We tell you exactly what we’re doing, and exactly what it costs – before we start.

Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To

Rotobrush has used several coil configurations across their duct cleaning systems over the years, and they’re not interchangeable. The coil cleaning kits we install cover the most common units still running in San Antonio service fleets: the Rotobrush aiR+ series, the standard Rotobrush duct cleaning machines used in residential work, and earlier Rotobrush models that many independent contractors still run daily. The coil cleaning mechanism varies between these lines, mostly in brush diameter, coil pitch, and how the cleaning head mounts to the drive shaft.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Rotobrush changed their coil brush mounting from a threaded collar to a set-screw design on newer aiR+ machines. An older coil cleaning kit will look like it fits, but it won’t seat properly against the coil housing, and that tiny gap lets dust pack in behind the brush where it hardens like concrete. If you’re holding a coil brush and aren’t sure whether it’s threaded or set-screw, look inside the mounting end. Threaded collars have visible spiral grooves. Set-screw versions have a smooth bore with a small hex hole in the side. Getting this wrong turns a $200 repair into a $600 rebuild of the coil housing.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Rotobrush-branded coil cleaning kits are solid and we install them regularly. But for older machines where OEM stock is spotty, we carry quality aftermarket kits built to the same coil pitch and brush density. The brush bristle material matters more than the box it comes in. You want stiff nylon bristles, not soft poly, because San Antonio dust carries a lot of fine grit that chews through soft bristles in a season. We stock both OEM Rotobrush kits and the aftermarket equivalents we’d run on our own trucks.

We also stock coil cleaning kits and related parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier brand systems, since a fair number of San Antonio contractors run mixed equipment fleets.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing

  • Reduced suction at the hose head. When the coil is clogged or the brush is worn down to nubs, the vacuum can’t maintain pressure. You’ll notice the hose pulls with less force and dust hangs in the air longer before getting captured. The coil isn’t agitating the debris loose, so the vacuum is pulling against packed material.
  • Brush head stalling on buildup that used to clear. A healthy coil cleaning brush should spin through caked lint without hesitating. If you’re feeling the head bind and release, the coil pitch is compacted with debris or the brush bristles have flattened. Forcing it will score the coil housing and make the problem worse.
  • Hot dust smell during operation. That sharp, almost burnt smell coming from the machine is the coil working too hard against resistance. Reduced airflow across the coil means heat builds up, and that heat bakes the dust trapped in the housing. Left alone, it warps the coil and the cleaning kit is the cheapest thing you’ll replace.
  • Dark streaks or scoring on the coil housing. Pull the cover and look. If you see shiny wear marks or dark grooves running along the inside of the coil housing, the brush is out of alignment or the mounting hardware has loosened. The coil cleaning kit is no longer making even contact, and it’s wearing metal against metal in places.
  • Collection bag filling slower than it should. This is the symptom owners notice on the invoice side rather than the equipment side. A failing coil cleaning system leaves dust in the ductwork, not in the bag. Jobs that used to fill two bags now struggle to fill one, and your customers notice the difference in their home’s air quality.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Antonio, expect to pay between $185 and $420 for a complete Rotobrush coil cleaning replacement installed. The lower end covers aftermarket brush kits where only the brush assembly itself is worn and the coil housing is clean. The higher end covers OEM Rotobrush kits, new mounting hardware, and the labor to pull the coil assembly, clean the housing properly, and check that the drive shaft spins true.

Part or Service Typical San Antonio Price
Aftermarket coil cleaning brush kit (most models) $85 – $140
OEM Rotobrush coil cleaning kit $150 – $230
Labor for coil cleaning replacement $100 – $190
Coil housing deep clean (when not replacing housing) $50 – $80

You’ll get a written price before we start, and that price covers the part, the labor, and the cleanup. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise through Cedarwell: if the coil cleaning isn’t working right after we leave, we make it right. No re-quoting, no finger-pointing. With Paul’s background at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College in mechanical systems, he’s particular about coil alignment, and his crew follows the same standard on every Rotobrush unit that rolls through our shop.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely pull the coil cover and look. In fact, we’d rather you do that before calling us, because what you see tells us which kit to bring. Check for scoring on the housing, check whether the brush bristles are flattened or missing, and check whether the mounting collar is threaded or set-screw. That’s the diagnostic half.

The repair half is where we’d tell you to stop, and this is one of the reasons it’s worth calling (903) 354-8393. A Rotobrush coil cleaning assembly is under tension from the drive belt, and forcing a misaligned brush into a scored housing will shatter a brush head or throw the drive shaft out of true. We’ve seen bots that had a bearing press have to be called in because a well-meaning owner hammered a coil kit into place. Not worth it. Our techs do this swap in about an hour, and we bring the right kit the first time.
